Most people think negotiation is the process of taking advantage of someone else.
It is done all the time, including within families, but it need not be. Negotiation
of that sort creates very short term advantages and long term liabilities. The best
negotiators strive to simply discover the truth of the needs and equities on both
sides and then help everyone get what they ought to have if the truth were known to
everyone. This article explores the basic skill-sets necessary to place \\"the
truth\\" in front of the other party so that they are willing and able to work toward
mutual goals.
